Paddy Fenlon Cup U15 – 24.03.07
St. Joesph’s Boys 1 – 4 Portmarnock AFC
Portmarnock under 15’s who are in the Major DDSL league had an excellent away win over St. Joseph’s Boys in the second round of the Paddy Fenlon cup.
A goal down within 10 minutes and playing into the breeze and up the slope Portmarnock improved their grip on the game with every player stepping up their control over the opposition. Paddy Egan scored after 20 minutes from a great Kevin O’Brien cross and four minutes later Jamie Walsh pounced on a mistake by the St. Joseph’s Keeper to make it 2 – 1.
Jamie Carr had a shot from a corner dramatically cleared off the line but 2 minutes later Tighe McCarthy played a great one two with Johnnie Boyle to run on to beat the keeper from 18 yards. The second half was very exciting and Sean McKearnan kept Portmarnock in the game with some fine saves. The central defence for Portmarnock Morgan O’Reily and Jamie Carr were outstanding and well supported by Brain Murry and Steven Rusk at full backs. Portmarnock forced the pace with Kevin O’Brien and Jamie Walsh causing constant problems for the St. Joseph’s defence, and with Portmarnock’s mid field taking control of the match substitute Nial Hoban scored a good individual goal by rounding the keeper to make it 4 – 1 with three of the goals coming from mid field. Michael Ring played well in central midfield and the substitutes of Josh Scannel, Anto Brennan and Steven Tear provided fresh legs in the hard fought second half.
The Team are eager to progress in the cup which may have Portmarnock’s name on it.

Mountview Vs Portmarnock U/11B DDSL – 17.03.07
Mountview 6 – 1 Portmarnock
After a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mountview at home last week, Portmarnock travelled to play the 2nd placed team in the league on a windy St.Patrick’s morning.
An early conceded goal for the second week running made it a difficult fixture which was eventually lost by six goals to one.
After going 2–0 down halfway through the first half, Portmarnock got back into the game when Paul Scully following in on a shot from Ciaran O’Reilly which the goalkeeper could only parry, threw himself full length to score with a brave diving header, his thirteenth goal of the season.
However losing a third goal right on half time and a fourth immediately after the restart made it a difficult second half playing into a strong wind.
Mountview scored twice more to continue their good run but Killian McGreer gave an outstanding performance as man of the match for Portmarnock in a difficult game in tough conditions.

Portmarnock AFC U/11B DDSL Vs Mountview – 10.03.07
Portmarnock AFC U/11B DDSL 0 – 1 Mountview
A great performance by Portmarnock against the league leaders resulted in a narrow defeat in Paddy’s Hill on Saturday with even the opposition Manager agreeing that his team were very lucky and that a draw would have been a fair result.
A 4–1–4–1 formation left Paul Scully up front on his own working hard for the hour and nearly scoring the equaliser mid way through the second half when he beat three players to the ball and shot narrowly wide.
Mountview had taken the lead after three minutes,a low shot following a corner leaving goalkeeper Curtis Hayden with no chance. Curtis went on to make some superb saves to keep the leaders to a single goal.
Portmarnock had further chances in the second half to draw level against a team who arrived intent on continuing their good run as they have only lost one game so far.
The entire Portmarnock squad, starting eleven and four second half substitutes played really well and it was a difficult decision to select a man of the match.
However Wesley Lennon, playing in a holding role in front of the back four impressed throughout and was named MOTM but it was an solid all round team performance on the day.

The committee, managers and players of Portmarnock AFC would look to pass on their best wishes and congratulations to Adrian McDonald and Brian Rickard from our senior team who have been called up to the FAI amateur squad to face Northern Ireland on March 21st in Newry.
Once again Portmarnock AFC has players representing their country as well as at league representative level. Adrian has been capped 7 times previous and is back in the squad for the first time since 2001. For Brian this is his first call up. Brian is club captain and lead the club to the Leinster Junior cup win over Killester earlier this season. Both call-ups have happened due to both players having an excellent season so far.

FAI Kick Start 2 Course
Recently Portmarnock AFC held an FAI Kick Start 2 course for 16 of the clubs coaches. FAI Technical Director Packie Bonner and FAI goalkeeping coach Declan McIntyre tutored the course. The course took place in the PSLC and on our pitches over the Fri/Sat and Sun. The under 11 DDSL team provided the players for the coaches the practice what they had been tutored on by Packie and Declan.
The course was a huge success with ALL the coaches enjoying it and also learning lots of new and different ideas.

Portmarnock AFC U11A Vs Shamrock Rovers – 03.03.2007
Portmarnock AFC 6 – 1 Shamrock Rovers
On a beautiful Saturday morning at Paddy’s Hill, our U11 team were out to play Rovers for the second weekend on the trot, having played them away from home last week and winning 5-1 which advanced the team to the quarter finals of the league cup. Rovers were coming out for revenge.
Things started badly, our captain and goalkeeper Mark O’Connor was feeling unwell, and was replaced by Simon Lenehan, and within minutes of the start we were forced to take Sam Boland off due to an ankle injury, however, his replacement Dylan Murray was only on the pitch and his first touch and powerful run to goal netted him his first of three for the day.
The play from the team was not one of there best performances although they were in complete control of the game. Our superb defence marshalled by Gabriel and Connor in the centre had there work cut out in the second half as Rovers tried to reduce the half time deficit of 4-0. A lack of concentration resulted in Rovers pulling one back after 15 minutes of the restart.
We then added two more goals, one from Aaron Mulvey, and one from Craig O`Neill, to give us the three points.
Goalscorers: Dylan Murray (3) Craig O`Neill (2) Aaron Mulvey
