Blitz Report:
Ribena 5–A–Side
May 10th, 2007
Boys "B" Section North
On a blustery day at Paddy’s Hill, with host St. Marnock’s using the superb facilities kindly offered by Portmarnock AFC, this was to be a day which will go done in the history books of the school. St. Marnock’s first adventure into competitive soccer in there history, came through to win there group and proceed into the leinster finals. Ms Curtin (Teacher) and Mr Darragh Smith (Coach) were delighted with the teams display especially that of Ciara Gayle the only girl to compete on the day.
The group was contested right up to the very last games with the possibility, either one of three teams qualifying, St. Marnock’s final game against St. Laurence O’Toole’s was to be a well contested game with St. Marnock’s securing victory by 2 goals to 1. The St. Laurence O’Toole’s team must be given huge credit as they started the second half 2–0 down and threw everything they had at St. Marnock’s. This was a fine display from both teams, the passing skills and finishing from both teams was a joy to watch.
The other game between Castleknock Educate Together and St. Gabriel’s was just as exciting and finished honours even at 2–2.
The real winner from the tournament was the beautiful game. At such a young age, the level of skill from these players was exceptional and hats off to each and every one of them for the entertainment they provided for the supporters, teachers, and officials that attended.
Well done all.
