U12 A DDSL Portmarnock 5 – 1 Howth Celtic
Another win for this young side at home against Howth Celtic. On reflection hats off to a superb Howth Celtic side who played very attractive football, and going by the comments after the game from referee Leo Deaton; "Credit to both teams, a pleasure to referee".
It all started bad for our young guns, about ten minutes into the game we failed to clear a bouncing ball on the eighteen yard line and with three chances to do so, it fell perfectly for Howth to capitalise on this defensive error. It was certainly not our best performance this season with a lot of swiping at the ball. Our passing game was also left behind in the dressing room. Management wondered if our players were doing this on purpose, as it just did not look right. More problems as right sided midfield player Coman Brady’s boot split in half and had to be substituted, and at that stage it was Coman who was really looking the part that could conjure up a thing or two. We did however manage an equaliser, and what a fine individual goal it was too. Jordan Briggs picked up the ball midway in the Howth half and cunningly dribbled pass three defenders losing balance and recovering very quickly to slot the ball into the far corner giving the goalkeeper no hope.
So it was 1–1 at half time and with some words from manager Darragh Smith the team got the message, and they decided to go and win the second half. They were not mistaking and came out blazing. First of his two goals was Dylan Murray, a powerful attacking player who is a total nightmare for most of the defences in the league and proved it again by later netting his second. Things were starting to happen and the lads got there confidence back, next up new player this year Dylan O’Neill, who, in the first half was playing right full back and was switched up front a position that Dylan loves and of course is always sniffing out chances to score, it eventually arrived and Dylan smartly put us 4–1 up. Howth were tiring at this stage and we added a fifth with about 10 minutes to go.
This leaves the lads still on top of the league with 8 games played and 7 wins and 1 defeat. They are still contesting both the SFAI and Hillery cups.
It is going to be a long season ahead and we will keep you updated.
